includes examples of solution providers offering wireless related
software, hardware and services. It does not attempt to represent all of
the wireless solution providers on the market. Inclusion of a provider
does not imply an endorsement by Clarity Consulting, nor does exclusion
imply any negative opinion. You can use this list as a starting point for your own research.
Because the wireless technology market is evolving, with providers
entering and exiting the market, getting acquired and changing their
positioning and offerings, it is recommended that you perform up-to-date

Manufacturers Casio Casio makes personal PC devices including Pocket PC and Windows CE
devices, sub-notebooks, industrial devices, Pocket viewers, Pocket
managers, and a variety of peripherals and accessories. Dell Dell sells its Pocket PC PDA, the Axim, along with accessories such as
its TrueMobile WLAN cards for PCs. Ericsson Through marketing agreements with third-party handset manufacturers,
Ericsson offers mobile phone handsets and smart phones. Fujitsu Fujitsu sells various user devices (especially pen tablets) including
the iPAD and TeamPad models, and accessories. Garmin Garmin produces GPS navigation and communications products for the
aviation and consumer markets. Hewlett-Packard Hewlett-Packard offers the iPAQ line of Pocket PCs as well as notebook
and tablet PCs. IBM IBM offers notebooks (ThinkPad) and resells Palmone handheld devices. Intermec Intermec sells ruggedized, intelligent handheld devices, with RF
capabilities, for automated data collection in the manufacturing, retail,
warehousing, transportation and healthcare. Itronix Itronix primarily targets the field service industry with its GoBook
line of tablet PCs, PDAs and rugged notebook computers, all with
integrated wireless communications capabilities. Kyocera Kyocera produces mobile phone handsets and smart phones. Lowrance Lowrance sells GPS devices and accessories. Magellan Magellan makes a variety of handheld GPS devices, vehicle navigation
systems and GPS accessories. Motorola Motorola offers phone handsets, two-way radios, pagers, accessories,
GPS products, embedded computer products, mobile data terminals (both
handheld and in-vehicle), and a variety of public safety applications. NEC NEC makes mobile phone handsets. Nokia Nokia manufactures mobile phone handsets including the Communicator
series of smart phones. Palmone Palmone manufactures a variety of handheld PDAs (Tungsten, Zire),
smartphones (Treo), and accessories, based on the Palm operating system
produced by Palmsource. Panasonic Panasonic sells ruggedized (Toughbook) and regular notebook computers. Qualcomm Qualcomm offers closed-loop fleet management solutions that include
satellite or digital communications capabilities, application software,
handheld computers (OmniTRACS, OmniExpress) and in-vehicle units (MVPc).
Qualcomm is also the maker of BREW, a wireless application platform for
mobile phones, and CDMA technologies used in 3G WANs. Research in Motion (RIM) RIM manufactures and sells handheld devices based upon its Blackberry
wireless platform with integrated email capabilities. RIM typically sells
its devices as part of a package that includes email software,
synchronization software, and real-time, nationwide wireless network
access through various partners. Samsung Samsung makes mobile phones and notebook computers. Sharp Electronics Sharp offers notebooks, handheld PCs and PDAs including the Zaurus line
of Linux-based PDAs. Sony Sony offers handheld PCs and PDAs, including the Clié series, and
notebooks such as the Vaio line. Symbol Technologies Symbol Technologies makes a variety of handheld terminals, pen
computers and wearable units with built in wireless communications
capabilities, with strengths in bar code scanning technology and automated
data collection devices. Think Outside Think Outside makes accessories and add-ons for PDAs, including its
Stowaway folding keyboard. Toshiba Toshiba is a leading maker of notebook computers, tablet PCs, and
handheld Pocket PC devices. Sierra Wireless Sierra Wireless makes wireless PC cards, including the AirCard line,
for WLAN and WAN connectivity. It also recently introduced a mobile phone,
the Voq. Socket Communications Socket Communications provides a variety of cards and attachments for
handheld devices and notebook computers to enable WLAN, Bluetooth,
Ethernet, GPS and bar code capabilities. 3Com 3Com offers WLAN and Bluetooth products as well as accessories, mostly
to the small business and home market. Alvarion Alvarion offers broadband wireless access products to the enterprise
market, including the BreezeNET family of WLAN products. Apple Apple makes the Airport 802.11x WLAN product for Apple computer users. Avaya Avaya markets WLAN access points to enterprise customers. Belkin Belkin offers WLAN access points, routers and WLAN network cards,
primarily for the home market. Cisco Cisco offers the Aironet series of end-to-end enterprise WLAN products. D-Link D-link offers WLAN products for the small business and home markets. Enterasys Enterasys offers the RoamAbout end-to-end enterprise WLAN products. Foundry Networks Foundry Networks sells WLAN access points and management software. Hewlett-Packard HP markets some WLAN access points and controllers, mostly to small and
medium-sized businesses. Intel Intel offers the PRO/Wireless LAN product line, in addition to chipsets
used in a wide variety of wireless devices and equipment. Intermec Intermec offers the MobileLAN family of WLAN access points, and
associated security and management software. Linksys Linksys, a division of Cisco, provides home, small business and office
networking kits. Netgear Netgear offers small businesses and consumers a full range of WLAN
products (access points, gateways, adapters, cards). Nortel Networks Nortel offers a WLAN solution -- access point, security switch and
network card – primarily for small businesses. Proxim Proxim sells a variety of broadband wireless and WLAN products
including the ORiNOCO WLAN line. RadioLAN RadioLAN provides long-range, wireless bridges for campus use. Raylink Working in conjunction with Raytheon RF Networking, a subsidiary of
Raytheon Company, Raylink provides WLAN products primarily for small
businesses. Symbol Technologies Symbol Technologies offers a WLAN access point and switch. Middleware
Providers -- enabling services, platforms and tools Adobe Systems Adobe provides software, including its well-known Acrobat Reader, to
download and view PDF files on Palm OS-based devices. Air2Web Air2Web licenses, and hosts, a wireless application development and
delivery environment called the Mobile Internet Platform that provides
access to back-end systems and data. Aligo Aligo offers its Omni Mobile software platform to develop and deliver
mobile applications to more than 4,400 different mobile devices. AvantGo AvantGo, a wireless service provided by iAnywhere, a subsidiary of
Sybase, provides mobile access to web-based content. Broadbeam Broadbeam offers the ExpressQ wireless platform for field service
operations, and the Mobile Solutions System platform for design,
development and delivery of mobile applications. Extended Systems Extended Systems offers a range of software solutions covering mobile
PIM (email and synchronization) and mobile field workers (sales,
pharmaceutical and field service), a mobility platform for developing and
deploying mobile applications, and software kits for Bluetooth, SyncML and
IrDA application development. IBM IBM offers various software products to assist in creating a mobile
application environment. Its WebSphere Transcoding Publisher product
adapts and delivers web content to mobile devices. Jacada Jacada's Integrator and Interface Server products web-enable legacy
applications and provide transaction access (via XML, COM and Java) as a
first step to deployment on mobile devices. JP Mobile JP Mobile offers the SureWave Mobile Server to synchronize and connect
mobile devices to enterprise legacy platforms and applications. Mapinfo Mapinfo supplies location-based software and technology for mobile
applications. Microsoft Microsoft creates operating system software for Pocket PC and Windows
CE devices, and offers the Mobile Information Server to serve applications
and contents to mobile devices. Pumatech Pumatech offers a variety of synchronization tools to deliver content
to mobile devices. Sun Microsystems Sun offers Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME), a programming language for
mobile devices. Wavelink Wavelink offers a platform to develop and manage wireless applications.
It also offers applications to monitor and manage WLANs, and to push
updates to wireless devices. Xcellenet Xcellenet offers its Afaria software to deploy and manage mobile
devices, applications and contents from a central location. Wireless Application Providers All of the vendors listed below offer some type of wireless application
functionality. They may license the software to enterprises, host it
themselves, or offer a combination of the two. 724 Solutions 724 Solutions provides mobile solutions to network operators, allowing
them to rapidly deploy next-generation IP-based network and data services,
as well as a series of mobile actionable alerting solutions to financial
institutions. Aether Systems Aether provides wireless data software infrastructure, applications and
services primarily to the transportation and government industries. APRIVA APRIVA offers its APRIVA Talk environment to enable companies to
design, develop and deploy wireless solutions on a variety of network and
devices. In addition, APRIVA offers pre-packaged, customizable mobile
point-of-sale, freight tracking, customer acquisition and subscription
software applications. Antenna Software Antenna offers and develops software to integrate Web, wireless and
supply chain technologies. Its ServiceTools product is a field service
management solution that connects service managers, technicians, inventory
managers and customers in real time. Datria Systems Datria Systems offers voice enabled mobile solutions to collect data
and information in the field. It also offers an application studio to
develop and deploy voice-based applications. Everypath Everypath provides mobile task automation software that delivers SFA,
field force, supply chain and other business applications and data to
mobile devices. It also offers an application development platform. FieldCentrix FieldCentrix offers field force automation software that assists
technicians in diagnosing and solving problems. Infowave Infowave provides the Wireless Business Engine to connect the mobile
workforce to corporate application such as email, Web-based applications,
the Internet, corporate intranets and client/server applications. Oracle Oracle's products include a business-oriented mobile portal, a wireless
application server and an eBusiness suite. The products provide remote
wireless access to email, databases and Oracle's ERP and CRM software. Psion Psion offers enterprise e-mail applications for Sybmian-OS based mobile
phones. Syclo Syclo offers its Smart software suite to mobile field workers and
technicians, to help in asset and inventory management, field audits of
equipment, capturing equipment readings in the field, applying corrective
maintenance and enabling communication between field techs and
dispatchers. Vaultus Vaultus offers a rapid application development environment as well as a
robust mobile client fully integrated with a production environment. The
Mobility suite includes tools to design, develop, operate and administrate
mobile applications and to pre-built connectors to integrate mobile and
enterprise applications. Viryanet Viryanet offers mobile workforce management software aimed at
automating field service processes such as scheduling, dispatch, work
order completion, etc. Although many IT service companies have some level of wireless or mobile
competence, the companies listed below have strong wireless integration
practices and experience, and many even focus exclusively on wireless and
mobile project and integration work. ArcStream Solutions ArcStream is a wireless system integrator, focusing on creating and deploying mobile and wireless applications for enterprises in the healthcare, pharmaceutical, education, utilities, insurance and other industries. It offers strategy consulting, systems development and integration expertise. Ascend Mobility Ascend offers the gamut of design, implementation and integration services, as well as business consulting and project management services. Cap Gemini Ernst & Young Cap Gemini offers mobile business model consulting, research and analysis, wireless channel integration, mobile payment and trading systems integration, and security and authentication. Deloitte & Touche Deloitte provides systems integration and strategy consulting as part of its mobile and wireless practice. IBM Global Services IBM provides mobile and wireless consulting and integration services. Questra Using its own development platform, Questra creates custom mobile applications for its clients that focus on monitoring, diagnosing, replenishing, managing and servicing remote, intelligent devices.
Wide Area Network Service Providers Aeris.net Aeris.net develops and markets two-way technologies that enable wireless connectivity and control of remote, intelligent devices (telemetry). Arch Wireless Arch Wireless provides wireless two-way data services including email and instant text messaging. AT&T Wireless AT&T Wireless offers wireless voice and data services using TDMA and next generation GSM/GPRS technologies. Boingo Boingo offers WiFi Internet access, on a subscription basis, in public "hot spots" such as airports, hotels and coffee shops. Cingular Wireless A joint venture between SBC and BellSouth, Cingular Wireless provides wireless voice and data services, including corporate e-mail service, through its GPRS, EDGE and Mobitex packet data networks. GlobalStar Globalstar offers global, mobile satellite telecommunications services, as well as satellite phone handsets. Hughes Network Systems Hughes Network Systems provides broadband satellite network solutions, including Internet access services, for businesses and consumers. Inmarsat Inmarsat is a mobile satellite communications operator offering services through various resellers and distributors. Iridium Using satellites operated by Boeing, Iridium provides mobile satellite data and voice solutions. Mblox Mblox provides global SMS infrastructure services to enterprises and consumers. Metrocall Metrocall is a wireless messaging provider offering paging, SMS and email services to subscribers. Nextel Using iDEN technology developed by Motorola, Nextel provides wireless communications services built upon its all digital network. Orbcomm Orbcomm offers satellite data services, sold through resellers, to track, monitor and manage remote assets. Skytel A subsidiary of WorldCom, Skytel provides traditional paging, text messaging, interactive two-way messaging, wireless email and wireless telemetry services. Sprint Sprint Wireless Broadband offers 3G and 4G wireless voice and data services using CDMA technology. Teledesic Teledesic is building a satellite-based network to offer broadband Internet access and expects to offer service through resellers starting in 2005. T-Mobile T-Mobile is a wireless service provider offering digital voice, messaging and high-speed wireless data services to the U.S. market. Verizon Wireless Verizon Wireless offers a variety of wireless voice and data services in the U.S. through its all digital network.
